When space is at a premium in your bar or around your counter top, you will want to either get a backless adjustable height stool to take up the least amount of space, or you will go for a folding counter stool. A folding counter stool will collapse the back rest, the seat, and the legs into a single thin plane, and so flattened will become highly useful for stowing away, and for transporting it from room to room, and even to an entirely new place altogether, such as a second home.

Why are there so many variants of swivel bar stools for sale? The reason is simple: The swivel function enables an easy access to and an easy exit from the bar counter stool. Bar counter stools are typically 30 inches high or more, which is almost double the height of the sitting surface of a regular chair. So one practically needs to climb into a stool to seat in place. Consequently, there is no way one could push the chair closer to the bar or counter - the legs are hanging in the air when seated. Therefore, the way to get closer to the table, bar, or counter is to swing into it, hence the swivel option.

Look for high quality fabrics that complement your home`s decor, as well as a fabric that works well with the finish you have selected AND the style of the bar stool. An "Antique Tapestry" is a beautiful fabric, but NOT on a silver modernized frame! Synthetic suede fabrics are very durable and easy to clean. They simulate the look and feel of suede, but are far more easy to care for than cotton or other natural coverings. Some manufacturers offer the ability to use your own fabric. These are commonly referred to as "COM" or "Customer`s Own Material." If you choose to use your own fabric, make sure it is an upholstery grade fabric and check with your salesperson to see how much material will be needed for each stool. Stools with backs generally require 2 yards per stool, whereas backless or metal back stools generally require 1 yard per stool. If your fabric has a repeating pattern that you want to match, it may be necessary to provide more fabric so the factory can match the placement of a design from one stool to the other.

In my opinion, wood bar stools are prone to problems not encountered with welded metal bar stools. Due to the soft nature of wood (when compared to steel), screws and joints tend to come loose over time- especially wood with arms. The constant outward stress on the arms can loosen the attachment points resulting in a loose feel. Legs and stretchers (horizontal support bars) can also become loose over time resulting in an unstable and potentially dangerous bar stool. Still, there are decorating situations in which only wood will work.

For an average height American, this is a good size for food preparation. And when one wants to eat breakfast at the counter, the appropriate height of the breakfast stool seat is 24 inches or so, which is termed the counter stool height. For busy people, this is a great choice of height: The food can be prepared and consumed in the same space, and it can be consumed either sitting up or standing down on a modern counter stool. Lots of choices, and no hassle with setting up another table when in a hurry.
Dorotea Romano Bar Stools, November 30th, 2017. Bar Stools - An old tradition: Bar stools are arguably as old as bars themselves. When someone thought of putting up a relatively tall, long table that would serve as a centerpiece for a public house, it would not have taken long to think up appropriate seating. The bar is often at elbow height of a standing man of average height, for the purposes of making things easier for the bartender who serves while standing, and also to draw attention in a room. Its height meant that conventional chairs would leave patrons at chest or chin-height in relation to the bar, which is no way to enjoy some food or drink. When bar counters served as focal points for food and drink as they did in the old days, one really needed one`s hands at the right height. The obvious solution was to go to the bar counter, order food or drink, then finish it off while standing up and leave afterwards. This was fine for the utilitarian purpose of public houses, but soon people started wanting to hang out for longer. In any case, taverns and pubs profited from having customers hang around for more than just a drink or two. Bar stools were invented to provide comfort and in turn generate revenue for the owners. The height meant that the countertop was in easy reach, and the narrowness meant one could seat a large number of people at the long counter. Since then, going to the pub to meet the locals and congregating at the bar for some drinking have become traditional pastimes. It would probably be unthinkable to imagine a world without the age-old practice of chilling out with the guys or gals for a drink after work while resting one`s feet.
Berta Russo Bar Stools, November 30th, 2017. There are two uses for bar stools in a typical American kitchens and game rooms: First is with 40-42 inches tall bar tops, and the corresponding comfortable sitting level of the bar counter stool is about 30-32 inches above ground. Second is with the counter tops, which have a typical height of three feet, or 36 inches, and a good sitting height with those is 24-25 inches. Likewise, the small dinette tables for nooks or game rooms are often somewhere between the bar top height and the counter top height. When you want to use your bar stool (or a counter height stool) in all of the above circumstances, then an adjustable height stool is a good choice. Not surprisingly, most adjustable stools will adjust between 24 and 30 inches in height.

These are common enough for manufacturers to produce them, but most customers will need a bar stool in the 24" to 30" range.

Despite the rectangular shape of the "floor plan" of the seat, you will be able to sit on the chair looking forward, as if riding, and straddling the chair with your legs, or you will be able to sit sideways, with your legs together, and your behind safely seated in the curve of the saddle seat.
